There are four skills in a language. They are listening skill, speaking skill, reading skill and writing skill. Among these skills, I consider reading skill to be very important for everyone of this information and technology age. Actually, reading is the gateway to the treasurehouse of knowledge and wisdom. It is also the major key to every success. In particular, we students should love reading because it is widely regarded that the youths of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
Reading is a must for everyone. Everyone should love reading. Students who love reading can get higher grades in tests than the others. Likewise, government staff who are in the habit of reading books can get promoted much higher than those who are not interested in reading. Without reading books, we cannot become leaders. All great leaders in every part of the world are book-worms, for example, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the State Counsellor as well as the leader of the NLD.
Reading makes her one of the world’s most famous leaders. If we Myanmar people want to keep up with international affairs, we must be well-read. We should read any kinds of books on all subjects whenever we have free time. We can get many benefits from reading various books such as novels, stories, poems, newspapers, magazines and so on. By reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, we can get much knowledge, lessons, experiences, new ideas, different feelings, and so forth. We can have good sense. We can decide what is right and what is wrong. We can become lovers of nature and finally we can get through our lives peacefully. These are the benefits we get from reading.
Therefore, reading is of great use in practical life. We should know the paramount importance and usefulness of reading, and its value. At any rate, no one can deny that everyone should love reading not only for gaining skills and qualities of life but also for making the world more and more beautiful than now.
